The mesh insert fits into the stainless reservoir, just below the top lip, this gives a platform on which to place decorative cobbles etc. The mesh insert hides the pump and wiring etc, allowing you to get the maximum volume of water into the reservoir.

Getting the maximum volume of water into the reservoir is important. Occasionally it will be necessary to top up the water in the reservoir due to evaporation losses, if you have a large volume of water in the reservoir you will not have to top up the water feature as often. When you initially switch the water feature on, a certain volume of water will be required to fill the feature to the point at which the water starts to return to the reservoir, this initial fill will take a significant volume of water out of the sump, this could be as much as a couple of inches!

Finally if the level falls to the point at which the pump starts to lose suction, then it is likely you will cause permanent damage to the pump!

The picture on the right shows the Stainless Steel insert, fitted into a round bowl, with holes cut to accomadate a Tigris Triple Pipe Feature! When you order an insert, it will be cut to suit the feature you have ordered, all you will need to do, is attach the feet, and slip the insert over the top of the feature and slide it down into the reservoir!
